Did Penny Look At The Camera Before Pie

Last calendar week we looked back at the fist quad photographic camera phone, well, quad camera if you only look at the dorsum. Adding the selfie photographic camera brings the full to five. But the Galaxy A9 (2018) wasn't the first phone to have five cameras on board – the LG V40 ThinQ beat it by a few weeks.

The 5-serial flagship from late 2018 is the topic of today'southward Flashback. We'll talk about its cameras, its other awesome features, some less crawly ones and a troubled launch.

The V40 was officially announced on September 27, but that annunciation was a bit short on details. The full reveal happened a few days later on Oct 3. It merely wasn't usable in the dark, so the phone switched over to upscaling images from the main camera.

Going back to the main photographic camera for a moment, it recorded superb 4K video. Somehow the 60 fps clips were crisper than the 30 fps ones, only we weren't about to complain.

This may be subjective, simply LG managed to design a good-looking triple camera – bundled horizontally on a pocket-size bump, with an LED flash to the side and a fingerprint reader below.

The front, well, that was an acquired gustatory modality. The phone packed a 6.4" P-OLED brandish, and then it was quite proficient at hiding the notch by blending information technology into the status bar. Just y'all knew it was there and that bugged some people.

On the plus side, it was a flat panel with good features. It was precipitous with 1,440 10 three,120 px resolution (537 ppi) and supported HDR10. Color accurateness wasn't perfect, but the effulgence was quite high.

The LG V40 ThinQ wasn't a perfect phone. The short battery life was its biggest flaw and it could have done with some display calibration. A better pair of selfie cameras likewise. It was even so a really interesting flagship and LG had pinned its hopes on it selling well.

With a new Mobile Communications director in charge, the company was changing its arroyo to the market and to its R&D efforts. Alas, things didn't pan out – LG equally a whole posted record profits, while the mobile division lost coin in 2018. Q1 of 2019 brought a loss besides and eyes had already turned towards the V50 ThinQ. Troubles continued into 2020.
